Static Media is looking for an enthusiastic, hard-working freelance Photo Research Editor to support the Looper editorial team. Looper covers movies and television, with a strong focus on MCU, DCEU, Star Wars, prestige television, network standards and much more. The Photo Research Editor will be responsible for selecting high-quality header images for news and feature articles, as well as compiling a library of images to be used across all Static Media brands. Initially, the focus will be Looper, but other projects will be determined. The role requires strong research, communication, and organizational skills, as well as deep knowledge of the core topics covered by Looper. A successful candidate will be a creative, versatile, self-starter who is comfortable liaising with photographers and content creators to secure proper permissions for all images. This position is work-from-home, and offers the opportunity for growth. Location does not matter.

Photo Research Editor Responsibilities:


Attach high-quality photos to all article assignment cards

Create and maintain a database of high-quality images for important topics

Contact photographers/content creators to secure permissions for use

Establish and maintain press agency memberships

Maintain excellent records of photo permissions

Compensation: $17 per hour

Commitment: 40 hrs/wk, Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm ET preferred

This position is located primarily in the UN Video Section, in the News and Media Division (NMD) of the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The UN Video Section produces video content highlighting a wide range of priority themes and issues on the United Nations agenda, including climate change, the Sustainable Development Goals, human rights and gender equality. The Incumbent reports to the Chief of Section.


This position is for an initial period of six months with possibility of extension.


Responsibilities

Within delegated authority and depending on location, the Video Editing Assistant, under the direct supervision of the Chief of Section, the incumbent is responsible for the following duties:


Upload videos as needed on various platforms, including performing archival tasks of the Section’s productions into the media asset management system (MAMS) and other database systems by ensuring that contents, both new and legacy, being ingested into the systems are promptly, accurately and completely catalogued and indexed, with all the required metadata entered; performing metadata quality control;

Provide technical support, recording and editing of TV and multimedia production and post-production;

Create links for download by partner broadcasters, as needed and assist in the generation of statistical and other reports from various databases for the monitoring and reporting of the work output, as well as collaborating with the staff and supervising the work interns in support of the metadata managements functions;

Report equipment problems, make emergency repairs or troubleshooting and ensure that repairs are made to the equipment when necessary and possible;

Create, review, maintain and edit as appropriate technical documentation, ensuring that all works are correctly documented;

Coordinate with TV producers, "on-air talent" and correspondents to edit and assemble news programs and studio shoots;

Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Experience

Experience in working with digital audiovisual and multimedia archiving formats and standards, metadata management and quality assurance is required.


Experience in database management systems and digital asset management systems is required.


Experience in working with social media and digital communication platforms is desirable.


Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the posittion advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.


Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.


Special Notice

• This position is temporarily available for six months, with possibility of extension. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment.

Position Description


The Educational Video Editor for the Office for External Education’s (OEE) Product Development group contributes to a growing portfolio of educational products and programs designed for OEE's target markets of corporate learners, health care professionals, and the general public. The Educational Video Editor will leverage expertise in visual communication, information organization, and storytelling in addition to video post-production skills to produce a broad range of video assets that bring healthcare education to learners in meaningful and memorable ways. They should feel comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and be comfortable working closely with world-class faculty, video producers, illustrators, animators, and curriculum experts to edit video material in compliance with strategically set deadlines and guidelines for optimal media delivery. This position reports to the Post Producer within the highly collaborative and cross-disciplinary Product Development group.


Expertise with workflow for video editing, media management, and team communication is crucial. Curiosity, creativity, initiative, and absolute attention to detail are a must, along with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to give and receive feedback graciously.


A successful candidate will be interested in how people learn and will possess a drive to support learning objectives with engaging media, and to solve challenges in effective visual communication. A background in science is desired, and a commitment to excellence in educational media is expected.

Execute post-production of video projects, including editing, mixing, and color correcting video assets

Create motion graphics as necessary

Organize, ingest, and sync footage

Process screencasts, voiceover, live action, and animation assets

Create assembly edits, including take selection

Prepare and send files for transcription, along with additional file preparation work

Set up feedback documents and tasks for review by project stakeholders, assign tasks using project management software, and synthesize and address feedback received

Compress and upload final videos for publication

Interface with online video hosting platforms to deliver media and associated assets

Review videos for quality assurance

Manage digital assets from capture to archive including meta-tagging and consistent file-naming

Serve as production assistant for the in-house video production team as needed

Flexible hours may be required periodically to accommodate video productions and product launch schedules

Basic Qualifications


Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years of experience in video production environments


Additional Qualifications and Skills



Exceptional judgment, keen eye for video, and strong creative skills with a focus on creating engaging and pedagogically sound videos for a specific target audience

Ability to make both aesthetic and content judgments about video, as well as assemble and edit material to create engaging videos with effective storytelling

Strong post-production experience including audio editing, audio mixing, and color correction with current post-production tools including Adobe Premiere CC

2D motion graphics experience and a strong grasp of graphic design principles including hierarchy, typography, and composition

Demonstrated ability to work as a self-starter, to work on multiple projects, and to consistently deliver high-quality media within a fast-paced environment

Capability to interface effectively with biomedical visualization, instructional design, and technology teams as well as faculty members and subject matter experts

Organized and proactive nature with exceptional attention to detail in production and post-production processes

Ability to independently identify post-production process issues and help to correct those issues with suggestions for new workflows and technologies

Outstanding professionalism and communication skills, both verbally and in writing

Comfort assisting with production in a medical setting with doctors and patients, as needed; or in-studio settings with faculty and subject matter experts, as needed
